We are a Valencian family company, born in El Puig de Santa Maria, a small town north of the metropolitan area of Valencia.
Aquabeba was not born in a laboratory... but in the shower at home.

It all started with the constant complaints from Jacinta and Lucía -the daughters of Gustavo, the boss-: "My hair is dry, frizzy, dull..."
So, as in all good stories, we decided to do something about it.

We did a lot of research. A lot. About water. About what chlorine, lime or heavy metals can do not only to the hair, but also to the skin.

We looked for factories capable of developing the filters we wanted. We tested prototypes. We adjusted. And, of course, the boss's daughters were the first to try it out. But we didn't stop there. If we could improve the water in the shower...

Why not become the first real step in the self-care routine of millions of
women? The result? Total success. Results that show. Since then, our purpose is clear:

That everyone has access to clean water, free of toxins and respectful of their skin
and hair.

And it all starts with water.

Is water different in Spain depending on the amount of lime?

Indeed, there is a great difference in hardness from one part of the country to another.

There are many factors that influence the hardness of water and, therefore, in the more than 500,000 km² of surface area of Spain, the proportion of lime that we find in the water that comes out of our faucet is different.

Hard water is characterized by dissolved minerals that, little by little, precipitate in our pipes, appliances or faucets, where their effect is very visible. And the same effect that happens with our dishwasher or faucets, also affects our hair and skin.

Hard water or soft water?

The Centro de Estudios Hidrográficos del Centro de Estudios y Experimentación de Obras Públicas establishes a classification for water hardness, which is measured in milligrams per liter (mg/l) of calcium carbonate or in French degrees that are approximately equivalent to 10 mg/l.

Thus, we can differentiate between soft, slightly hard, moderately hard and very hard waters.

  • Soft water: Concentration of less than 50 mg/l of calcium carbonate or 5 French degrees.
  • Slightly hard water: Concentration between 50-100 mg/l of calcium carbonate, between 5 and 10 French degrees.
  • Moderately hard water: Concentration between 100 and 200 mg/l of calcium carbonate, between 10 and 20 French degrees.
  • Very hard water: Concentration of more than 200 mg/l of calcium carbonate, more than 20 French degrees.

Cities with the hardest water

Hard water is common throughout Spain, especially in the coastal areas of the east and south.
However, there are areas where the water is especially hard, such as Alicante, Castellón, Palma de Mallorca or the Andalusian cities of Málaga, Almería and Jaén.

Excessive water hardness is not only common on the Levantine coast or in the south of the peninsula, but also affects regions such as Aragón, a large part of Catalonia, Castilla la Mancha and Castilla y León.

Hard water, chlorine and microparticles can have negative effects on both skin and hair. This is due to its high mineral content, such as calcium and magnesium, which can deposit on the skin and hair, causing various problems.

Effects on the skin

Dryness: Hard water can dry out the skin, as the minerals interfere with the skin's ability to retain moisture. Chlorine, on the other hand, can remove the skin's natural oils, which can lead to dryness, itching and flaking and even eczema.

Irritation: Minerals and chlorine can irritate the skin, especially in people with sensitive skin or conditions such as psoriasis or dermatitis. This can cause redness, itching and rashes.

Pore clogging: These contaminants can clog pores, which can lead to the formation of blackheads and acne.

Premature aging: Some studies suggest that hard water and chlorine may contribute to premature skin aging, as the minerals can damage collagen and elastin, proteins that keep skin firm and elastic.

Effects on hair

Hair care Hair care

Dryness and roughness: Hard water can leave hair dry, rough and dull, as minerals adhere to the hair fiber and hinder hydration.

Weakening and shedding: Hair may become weaker and prone to shedding, as minerals can damage hair follicles.

Split ends and breakage: Hair becomes more fragile and prone to split ends and breakage.

Difficulty combing: Hair may become more difficult to comb and tangle easily.

Color change: In some cases, hard water can alter hair color, especially in color-treated hair. Chlorine can give it an undesirable greenish or yellowish tint.
